2020 was a pretty weird year! I mean; I think we all can agree that last year, in reality affected all of us individually in all sorts of different ways; right? Emotionally, spiritually, financially, mentally & or etc. (I’ll definitely hit those topics up soon). Career wise?….In Miami?…. Obvi; speaking for myself?
It was tough.
Opposed to other service careers such as nail technicians, massage therapist’s, hair dressers/barbers and etc, these careers generate a bit more volume in customer sales.
As a customer/consumer – Yeah, maybe in 2020 you might’ve switched from acrylics nails to gel mani’s at home,…but there’s a good possibility you’ll probably not going to try massage that knot of out your back, or cut your own hair? Catch my drift?
Not excluding the actual, physical face-to-face (there’s no way for social distancing here ha) action during the service process of a makeup artist applying makeup to HELLO …. the face!
The production world also felt this…. the TV world took a massive pause not technically a full a halt. As they say in show biz; “the show must go on”.
In most local television chains; to keep measures safe & secure during 2020, most air talents, had to do their own makeup and hair too (There’s that push comes to shove moment ha)!
Peroooooo…..
Let me just throw in here that I was so proud of them!!!! And not only on air ladies but the men on air too (Yes everyone on TV get makeup)!
But thankfully & mega gratefully I was a part of a few productions/events in 2020.
One of these events took place in San Antonio, TX. yiiiiii and what a wonderful event it was!
Initially; I was pretty nervous to travel for the first time and was pretty consumed by my own nerves. Making sure I was traveling with just about everything I needed in my kit and making sure while I traveled out of my city and into the airports and etc; I stayed safe!
To explain; my parents are both in their 70’s (10 days apart from each others birthdays) and one of my parents is a high-risk! So when I mean that’s all I was thinking about while traveling to Texas? …, that’s all I was thinking about.
Ohhhh and of course I was also thinking of my kit too!
In a nutshell? With all those thoughts while I was traveling, it never came to my mind to ask what kind of work I was going to be doing ha! I knew who I was working with of course; pero not the in’s and outs. Honestly, I was just so excited to work & travel; a bit nervous claro too due to Covid you know but I actually had no clue of what kind of event I was working till I actually arrived in Texas. Ha! (#makeupartistlife).
Of course all the measures were safe too, Everyone including myself, were tested prior to leaving to Texas as well also prior to working the event as well. They weren’t playing! And honestly that made me and I’m sure all of us working feel pretty safe.
Working TeletonUSA was so cool and I was so happy to be a tiny small part of this amazing cause! Not only was it my first time in Texas, but also the first time in my career I’ve worked a televised fundraiser!
Which for me? Megaaaa cool!
You see… the way I see things, in my life? I don’t believe in coincidences & I’m a true believe that everything happens for a reason – & everyday there’s a chance to learn something new.
I’ll tell you what…. working this event really changed my perspective in so many ways. Especially with what was going in the world then – and well now too.
While I was at CRIT, I got to meet such amazing people! Chatted with a few of the amazing children & their families which also shared their stories on stage too; treated also by CRIT. I also got to hang with a few adults that had previously received treatment at CRIT when they were younger and how positively impactful this facility was to them!
Now, can you imagine everything I just mentioned above in 2020 and how it affected me as a makeup artist? Of course I’m sure you too; reading this were affected someway-somehow in 2020.
And although nationally and worldwide and we all felt this tough year? Teleton USA was determined; no matter what to continue to reach their goals to help all these amazing families! The goal was to raise 6M for this amazing program and facility!
And I’ll tell you what? They did just that!
With everyone’s help!
All the celebs,
You’re girl was crying …. seriously? ALL over the place! And honestly what a beautiful and humbling experience to watch and also to be a part of!
If you don’t know this about me…. I always take things real deep. get your mind out of the gutter! But seriously there’s always something to learn from every experience and I’m very much grateful for this one.
Although 2020 was a tough on us all of, whether it was finically, emotionally, physically, mentally or all the above? Working this event? Really showed me how much love we really do have in our hearts to give! #Hope & Faith in humanity.
?
